The Scottish Recorder Orchestra

Musical Director: Ian Wilson

Associate conductors: Dietrich Schnabel, David Powell     Chair: Ingeborg van Knippenberg

Monthly rehearsals are on Sunday afternoons in Stirling.

Our last concert was on Sunday the 8th of May 2016 in Perth

We are immensely sad that our founding Musical Director, Eileen Silcocks, died on the 9th of June 2017 after a long illness, bravely borne. She was an inspiring teacher, conductor, composer and player of recorder, viol and cello, well known and loved in Britain and internationally.

She made her last home in Scotland and Eileen has been the Musical Director of the SRO since its foundation in 2002.

Orchestra members commemorated Eileen at the final rehearsal of the 2016-2017 season on the 11th of June, conducted by David Powell.

The orchestra has about 60 members, playing all sizes of recorder from sopranino to sub‑contrabass, making a full orchestral sound. Repertoire ranges from ancient to modern, including original compositions and arrangements of pieces written for other combinations. Rehearsals are once per month plus occasional residential weekends. Public concerts are performed at least annually. There is a special relationship with the Dortmund Recorder Consort involving joint residential weekends and joint concerts in both countries.

Our New Musical Director, Ian Wilson, will conduct the first rehearsal of the 2017-2018 season on Sunday the 17th of September, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the hall of Holy Trinity Scottish Episcopal Church, Albert Place, Dumbarton Road, Stirling FK8 2RG (not our usual venue).
